Guided tour of the exhibition 1821 before and after, especially designed for Afro-Greek primary and secondary school students at the Benaki Museum
17/10/2021 Benaki Museum, Athens, Greece
As part of the project the AfroGreeks, Afro-Greek primary and secondary school students visited the exhibition for the 200th anniversary of the 1821 revolution. In a tour designed – specifically for the children – by Benaki Museum educators Maria Zamenopoulou and Maria-Rosa Xenakis and anthropologist Grace Nwoke, the children creatively explored issues of freedom, slavery and identity through the history of modern Greece. The students captured in drawings what stood out from the exhibition, emphasizing that the event made them feel proud and in solidarity with the country they live in.
