the AfroGreeks and Greek traditional music – Public concert by Adalou
01/05/2021 Panormou 0pen-air market, Athens, Greece
The musician Aggelos Aggelou and his band Adalou put on an inventive live event, giving a concert at the open-air market of Panormou, singing traditional songs from Greece and the Balkans.
This action highlighted the function of street art as a way of expression and release that cancels discrimination and unites people as consumers participated and danced while passing by holding their shopping. Street vendors also embraced the event and started asking for songs from their home countries.
The social interaction created by music, unpredictably, in key spaces such as an open-air market appeals to communities that are more difficult to access due to age and social factors and breaks stereotypes and prejudices as can be seen in the video of the event.
An anonymous racist reaction did not manage to create a problem at the outdoor concert of Adalou and Aggelos Aggelou, nor did it discourage the spontaneous participation of those shopping at the market.
