I Am Not Your Negro & the AfroGreeks – Movie screening in theater and all-day online event with public discussions
10/12/2020 Greek Film Archive, Athens, Greece
Døcumatism and the project the AfroGreeks represented Greece, along with 44 other countries, in commemoration of the International Human Rights Day 2020.
This event marked the beginning of the laboratory that accompanies the project, resourcefully combining the physical and online space in an attempt to manage the restrictive measures during Covid19.
A 24hour, online screening of Raoul Peck’s film “I Am Not Your Negro” was accompanied by a video of the reactions of the Afro-Greek viewers who saw the film for the first time at the Greek Film Archive. The video sparked an online discussion between online viewers and protagonists of the AfroGreeks which concluded the event.
All 3 parts of the event, which lasted 24 hours, were sold out and the audience participated in the final discussion posing over 150 questions. The event was extremely well publicized and resonated on social media with a remarkable massiveness: it was shared by organizations, communities, politicians, the Ministry of Culture, many Afro-Greek teenagers and second-generation children creating an extremely interesting and valuable rallying point. Døcumatism collaborated with 14 social organizations and 6 African communities for this event.
