24-25/09/2020 Zoetrope gallery, Kypseli, Athens, Greece
The protagonists of the AfroGreeks participated creatively in the two-day program Archives, Process: images of the African and Black Diaspora, organized by the British-Nigerian artist Anietie Ekanem from London, and the Greek curator Ariana Kalliga at Zoetrope Gallery, in Kypseli.
On the first day Anietie Ekanem introduced the protagonists of the project to the production of cyanotypes using archival photographs of South-Eastern Nigeria and initiated them to the exhibition of photographic negatives on photo-sensitive paper. The Afro-Greeks who participated in the workshop shared with him their photographs and their need to connect with their countries of origin through interaction with archival images and family photographs.
The following day, at Pedion tou Areos park the artist and the protagonists of the AfroGreeks, read and commented on excerpts from African American bell hooks’ essay In Our Glory: Photography and Black Life, which became the occasion for a discussion between them on issues of identity, memory and diaspora.
