The Afro-Greeks Remember. Singer and songwriter Negros Tou Moria wrote the song I Am Sourtoukis especially for the AfroGreeks project, to commemorate the anniversary of the birth of Theodoros Kolokotronis on 03/04/21, 200 years after 1821. He performed it together with musician Dauda Conteh in front of the statue of the revolutionary fighter in central Athens.
The action was filmed by Døcumatism and released online, attracting the interest of tens of thousands of viewers from the very first evening. The Afro-Greek heroes of the AfroGreeks project do not forget; through their actions, they creatively honour Greek history.
The action was conceived by the artist together with the collective after nationalist circles blocked his social media account. The intervention of the police during the action, together with the reality of Athens, made the performance an adventurous one.
The action was adopted by various universities in Greece, Germany, and Canada through events organised against racism, promoting a creative approach to national symbols. The video is freely available in the project’s digital archive.
