Mikel Ergar & Kofi Yiadom, protagonists of the AfroGreeks, take part in the Clean Week 2022 competition organized by Døcumatism
06/12/2022 Greece
On the occasion of “Clean Week 2022”, a solidarity initiative of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) in collaboration with Ozon magazine and Kärcher, an original competition was organized to create an artistic video to say “thank you” to the municipal cleaning employees, the unsung heroes of everyday life. The Afro-Greek protagonists Kofi Ergar and Mikel Yadom wanted to prepare an artistic video so that they too could thank the cleaning workers in their own way and join in the initiative to awaken and raise awareness among the city’s residents about the important contribution of all cleaning workers. The video that was prepared with the help of the Døcumatism team took 4th place.
Kofi Ergar and Michael Yadom are dancers of Ghanaian origin. Mikel Ergar is a dancer but also works as a dance teacher, model and is a member of the Soulart group with whom they organize hip hop dance events all over Greece. Kofi Yadom is a footballer and works as a distributor, model, dancer and is also a member of the Soulart team.
Below is the text of the artists as written for the submission to the competition.
Thank you knows no boundaries: In our quest to be artists we do a lot of work. Because of our backgrounds we have felt from a very young age what it is like to be different and invisible. The feeling of being invisible in a city that ignores and marginalizes you. The video is a choreography, designed to convey solidarity with those who keep our cities clean and feel as invisible as we do. To tell them that what they do is valuable and to ask our fellow citizens to respect them and help them in the hard work they have to do every day. We chose our choreography to take place next to Alexi’s tree where conscientious citizens have created a makeshift trash bin along with a dog who makes sure to pick up any unnecessary trash by playing every morning.
