The ongoing collective community project the AfroGreeks, created by the Kypseli-based collective Døcumatism together with the Afro-Greek protagonists themselves, took part in the presentation of the book White Thinking by Lilian Thuram (19:00 – 20:30, AUDITORIUM “MILTIADIS EVERT”) at the 1st International Literature Festival of Athens organized by Technopolis. The project’s protagonist, Lauretta Macauley participated in the discussion panel Deconstructing “white thinking” on its own turf alongside Lilian Thuram and Demis Nikolaidis, moderated by Panagiotis Menegos, for a lively discussion about racist stereotypes on and off the field, unbearable inequities and pernicious social norms, but also about the potential for liberation from oppressive frames of thought in Greece, France and beyond. After the panel, screenings from the AfroGreeks project’s video installations and excerpts from its public actions were presented to the public, from 20:30 to 23:00.

DJ set Tokyo (Tony Youngster) and Pepper & Spice (Konstantinos Kalagbor)
After the screenings, the performers/protagonists of the community project the AfroGreeks took over the festival’s closing party. Performers Tokyo (Toni Youngster) and Pepper & Spice (Konstantinos Kalagbor) continued the “deconstruction of white thinking” through a dynamic dj set full of black music, accompanied by open-air screenings of videos from the AfroGreeks project. This way, an interactive relationship with participants was created to continue the dialogue on the book’s themes beyond the panel discussion.
